Biofeedback is a technique that allows you to see how your body responds to stress in real time. Using small, non-invasive sensors, we measure things like heart rate variability and breathing patterns and display them on a screen in front of you. Then, using guided techniques, breathwork, visuals, and games, you learn how to consciously shift those patterns until your nervous system finds a calmer, healthier baseline on its own. Think of it like going to the gym for your nervous system. It is safe, non-invasive, and backed by decades of research.
Traditional therapy is largely talk-based — you process experiences, gain insight, and work through emotions verbally. That has real value, but it doesn't always change how stress lives in your body. This work goes deeper. We use biofeedback technology and mind-body practices to work directly with your nervous system — not just your thoughts and feelings. Sessions feel more like a structured clinical appointment than a traditional therapy session. There is a clear treatment plan, measurable outcomes, and a defined endpoint so you can actually see yourself getting better.
Biofeedback is especially effective for chronic anxiety, stress, and burnout, trauma responses and PTSD symptoms, difficulty relaxing or calming the body, poor sleep and fatigue, emotional dysregulation, and physical symptoms of chronic stress such as tension headaches, muscle tightness, and digestive issues. If your body feels like it is stuck in a constant state of high alert even when there is nothing actively wrong, biofeedback was designed for exactly that.
Yes. Biofeedback is completely safe, non-invasive, and does not involve medication or hypnosis. The sensors used during sessions simply measure your body's existing physiological responses — they do not emit any signals or stimulation of any kind. It is appropriate for most adults and has decades of clinical research supporting its effectiveness.
HRV stands for heart rate variability, which is the variation in time between each heartbeat. It is one of the most reliable indicators of nervous system health and stress resilience. A higher HRV generally reflects a more flexible, regulated nervous system, while a lower HRV is associated with chronic stress, anxiety, and burnout. We measure your HRV at intake and throughout your treatment cycle as one of our primary benchmarks for tracking your progress.
HeartMath is a research-based approach that focuses on heart rate variability and nervous system coherence. As a certified HeartMath provider, I incorporate HeartMath principles and technology into biofeedback sessions to help clients build heart coherence — a state of optimal communication between the heart, brain, and nervous system. You can learn more about the science behind HeartMath at heartmath.com.
