Finding a counselor you connect with can be a difficult task.  I want my clients to feel as comfortable as possible before entering my office so we can effectively work together.  I have provided you with some information on my professional background and my therapeutic approach so you can determine if we will be a good fit.

I am a native of Petal, MS and moved to the Mississippi Gulf Coast in 2011.  I obtained my undergraduate degree in Psychology from the University of Southern Mississippi in 2009, and received my Master's degree in Child and Adolescent Therapy from William Carey University in 2012. My professional experience consists of working as an adult services case manager in 2009 and a family, adolescent, and child clinician from 2012-2015.  I worked closely with DHS and the Harrison County Youth Court during this time.  In 2017, I worked as a Military Family Life Counselor and provided services to the children, families, and service members in the U.S. Navy.  I opened my private practice in June of 2015 and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (#1984) for the State of Mississippi. I am also a Board Certified Telemental Health Provider (#1666) and can accommodate clients electronically throughout the state of Mississippi.

In 2019, I felt a personal shift within myself and with my work, and began to explore the idea of providing a different approach to traditional outpatient counseling.  Yoga and meditation became an important part of my personal life in early 2018, and I felt led to share the skills I learned from these practices with my clients.  I traveled to Puerto Jimenez, Costa Rica and completed my 200 hour yoga teacher training under Yogi Aaron and John Thurman.  I am a registered yoga teacher with Yoga Alliance, and I am now integrating mindfulness, meditation, and yoga techniques into therapy with my clients.

I believe that we can achieve an optimal level of wellness- mentally, physically, and spiritually, by merely becoming mindful of ourselves. I utilize a holistic, solution-focused approach with my clients.  Holistic therapy simply means that when you focus on the relationship between mind, body, and spirit, you can address the way issues in one aspect of your life lead to concerns in other areas as well.  I integrate a solution-focused approach to counseling as well, and I will help you create an individualized plan to start your journey toward overall wellness.

I hold my clients to a high standard to remain motivated throughout the individual therapy process and to recognize that the benefits of therapy reflect what you put into it.  I will provide you with the tools necessary to get you where you want to be, and I will hold you accountable to practice these skills consistently outside the office.  My primary focus for every client is to create an individual plan that will help you achieve your personal goals, and I will check in with you regularly to ensure that you are making progress toward them.

If you feel that we may be a good fit and that my practice encompasses the personal goals you want for yourself, please give me a call at 601.385.1145 or email me directly at katie@katiermasonlpc.com to schedule an appointment.
